The Eureka County Sheriff's Office encourages responsible pet ownership.
The Eureka County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Officer handles animal complaints within the entire county. One ACO is assigned to this specific duty. Patrol and detention deputies assist the Animal Control Officer as needed.
The only animals which the Eureka County Sheriff's Office takes in are dogs. All other animal complaints may be referred to the appropriate agency. The Eureka County Sheriff's Office also has traps available for nuisance animals upon request.
The Eureka County Sheriff's Office offers for adoption, any dog which has been in custody for more than seven (7) days. The fee to adopt a dog is ten dollars ($10).
Any owner of a dog that is impounded in the Eureka County animal shelter is assessed a $10 fee for the first offense, with a graduated scale for subsequent offenses. This is in addition to any citations that may be issued as a result of violation of Eureka County Code Title 6, Chapter 20.
