The Firewise Communities program offers a series of practical steps that individuals and communities can take to protect themselves and their property from risk of wildfire. The Firewise vision is that, through homeowner preparedness and community planning, wildfires can occur without catastrophic loss of lives, property, and natural resources.

Eureka Firewise Community Event - May 5, 2017 - 10:30 am to 1:00 pm - Eureka Fairgrounds

Stop by Eureka's 8th Annual Firewise Education Day to learn about fire resistant plants, defensible space, being ember aware, landscaping materials, fire resistant building materials and our community evacuation plan. Sign up for free home assessments.

Enjoy a free BBQ lunch, visit Smokey Bear, enter the free raffle drawing, take home fire resistant plants grown by Eureka's FFA students, tour emergency vehicles while visiting with local volunteer fire men and women and BLM crews, NDF crews, and USFS crews. Visit with 4-H students and their animals and come check out the ember house.

Smokey Bear Hot Air Balloon will be coming to Eureka! - May 5, 2017 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at the Eureka Fairgrounds. This year we will be hosting the Smokey Bear Hot Air Balloon with the support of the Battle Mountain District Bureau of Land Management. The balloon will provide free tethered rides on May 5th from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at the Eureka Fairgrounds. Please join us the morning of May 5th to check out the Smokey Bear Hot Air Balloon.
