![]() Eureka/Diamond Valley Firewise Community The Eureka/Diamond Valley Firewise Community was created in October 2009 to help the Board of County Commissioners facilitate county projects under Title III of the Secure Rural Schools and Self Determination Act, which authorizes expenditure for search, rescue and emergency services, fire prevention and planning under the Firewise Communities program, and development of community wildfire protection plans. Firewise Communities/USA is a nationwide program that recognizes communities for taking action to protect people and properties from the dangers of fire in the wildland/urban interface. The Firewise Communtities/USA is of special interest to small communities and neighborhood associations that are willing to mitigate against wildland fire by adopting and implementing programs tailored to their needs. Communities create these programs themselves with cooperative assistance from state forestry agencies and local fire staff. The Firewise Communities program offers a series of practical steps that individuals and communities can take to protect themselves and their property from risk of wildfire. The Firewise vision is that, through homeowner preparedness and community planning, wildfires can occur without catastrophic loss of lives, property, and natural resources.
